Violet Ida is a fragrance that evokes confidence in 1930's Britain, where Ida Arnold, a heroine of Graham Greene's iconic novel Brighton Rock, wears violet in her hair and represents goodness, tenacity and morality.

The fragrance opens with a sweet fresh citrus and herbaceous note of bergamot and carrot seed, but the dark heroine is brought instantly to the fore with a deep exclusive presence of Orris butter from Tuscany. Vanilla and amber bring a modernity and smoothness to the rich, evocative scent, evoking a contrast of old and new and polished refinement.

Violet but a strong vanilla base note
Having read a lot of reviews about this perfume and being a violet and powdery perfumes I blind bought a bottle. I do like it but don’t love it. The base note is a very strong vanilla which leaves me on the edge of triggering a headache. Apparently vanilla is a ingredient that is most likely to trigger headaches in perfumery. I wouldn’t call this perfume particularly powdery or even very violet smelling. It remind me of Shalimar but with a top note of violet that disappears after an hour or so.
I strongly recommend you try before buying in case you react to strong vanilla like I do.
