Reinterpreted today by Dominique Ropion from an extraordinary 1348 recipe, originally crafted to ward off the Black Death and banish evil forces, its richly fragrant formula instantly transports us to another realm. A delectable medley of spices and aromatics unfolds, revealing the warm, resinous absolute of cistus, a wild shrub thriving in Spain’s sun-scorched landscapes; the honeyed opulence of damask rose, the sweetest and most indulgent of all roses; the intoxicating depth of wild myrrh; styrax resin, leaving behind a warm, musky leather-like trail; and the highly spiritual presence of frankincense.

Beautifully spicy amber

I’m a big aficionado of Dominique Ropion and History in general , as well as Amber being my favourite scent profile, I was predisposed to love this perfume and trepidatious as to being inevitably disappointed however I’m happy to say that I do love it , unreservedly! It’s a beautifully wearable version of a clove studded orange pomander but it’s the wonderful spice melange at the base that’s particularly captivating.
