So Nude - A tale of two bottles…
As a long-time wearer of Dominique Ropion’s creations, I’ve come to love and appreciate a certain level of craftsmanship and longevity from his work. So Nude has been a new addition to my collection but I feel there is a stark difference between the original formula and the recent reformulation.
The original bottle (with the bold lettering) was perfection. This skin-scent masterpiece would bloom on my skin and stay with me from morning to night. Yes, it would soften into something more intimate by afternoon, but that gorgeous, warm musk would still be remain. The longevity was impressive for such a sheer fragrance, easily lasting 8-10 hours.
The new bottle, however, is lacking. The beautiful opening is still there, that same creamy sandalwood and soft musk, but it fades dramatically faster. Where the original would carry me through a full workday and into the evening, this newer version barely makes it past lunch. It’s as if the volume has been turned way down. I understand reformulations happen, but this feels like a significant loss. For those who loved So Nude for its ability to be both subtle and enduring, the new formula may leave you reaching for the bottle more often than you’d like. It’s still a beautiful fragrance, Ropion’s talent shines through but the staying power that made it special has seemingly vanished.
If you find the original bottle anywhere, grab it.
