Tour The World With Scents!
Pack your bags and grab your passport. This week, we’re taking you on a tour around the world with our top travel tips and tricks.
1. Top Breathtaking Destinations That Give Us a Dose of Wanderlust
Okay, we might be bias but there’s something about our beautiful home country that really sets it apart from other destinations. Where else to begin? No city in the world encapsulates adventures quite like Sydney. And my oh my, there’s so much to experience! Sydney is a dream travel destination. And although the Opera House is surely one of the most recognisable landmarks, there’s just so much more to do and to see in Sydney - from exploring the stunning beaches and coastlines to finding the best cafes, bars and unique landmarks and of course, its storied past.
Another dream destination on our list is Japan. Tokyo gets all the noise, but Kyoto is where it’s at. The historic and cultural capital of this most fascinating nation, Kyoto is a picture-postcard city of classical Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, traditional wooden houses and imperial gardens. This reminds us of Costume National Scents. Launched in 2001, right in the heart of the namesake Fashion House that was created in 1986 by Ennio Capasa, who combined Japanese minimalism with Italian tailoring approach. Costume National Scents’ olfactive identity is built around a modern soul and ‘Made in Italy’ DNA: its “tailor-made” approach follows the canons of the artistic tradition of high-end perfumery, whilst creating a unique collection of structured and modern fragrances. If you haven’t already tried a Costume National fragrance, take this post as sign and spoil your self a bottle of I or J, or both!
Is any romantic roundup complete without mentioning the city of love? As the capital of France, there's a reason to fall in love with the ambience and energy of this destination. A Parisian fragrance house we absolutely love is Memo Paris. The house sees fragrance as a journey, forging its identity around magical destinations and potent raw materials. Through its four collections, Memo charts the map of a sensory world steeped in emotion, revisited with fragrances, ingredients and sensations. One spray of Eau de Memo will have you diving into euphoria and soaring above the City of Light to an journey of discovery.
Most of our choices have focused on the magnificent serenity and tranquillity offered up by coastal lines and beaches. And, well, it doesn’t get any better than this. Bora Bora is as close to paradise as you’re going to find. Picture this: balmy summer nights, palm trees, crystal clear beaches, white heaven sandy walks. One question remains: Which perfume to take? Some of our top fresh, green, citrusy scents are Viking Cologne by Creed, Xi’an by Ormonde Jayne or Magnolia Bliss by Julliette Has A Gun. In case you were considering completing your fragrance wardrobe with some new scents, here’s some good news for a good week! 2. Carry-on Must-haves we Always Bring. Every Time. No Matter Where.
Regardless of whether you're packing a duffle bag, backpack, or carry-on, it's what's inside that really matters. When packing your carry-on, you'll first want to focus on a list of absolute must-have travel items. Things like a passport wallet and an easily accessible toiletry pouch will help you stay organised and bring you peace of mind through airport security. And of course, other travel essentials like headphones, snacks(!), and a travel pillow are some personal recommendations. But what else to pack?
It's a given to pack sunscreen to wear on your vacation, but let us tell you, you should also be applying it in-flight, especially if you're in the window seat! The altitude can expose you to harmful UVA rays. We love Hunter Lab Sunscreen SPF 50+ for its lightweight, non-greasy texture. Presented as a convenient roll-on balm, ideal for travelling, it also offers smooth and easy application resulting in a satin-matte finish with 2 hours water resistance.
If your skin gets downright parched on planes, these are some of our fav skincare travel must-haves. Idralia Cream by Santa Maria Novella features a moisturising and protective day cream for normal and mixed skin types. Beautifully scented with their iconic rose-gardenia fragrance, it is emollient and restoring thanks to the plant lipids and vitamin E. If you’re after a body cream for a quick on-the-go refresh that also relaxes the skin without any drying effect, the new Compagnie de Provence Anise Lavande Body Cream is for you!
Lip balms are another essential many travel addicts swear by. For example, Karite Lip Balm is a must-pack, since it's both comfortably nourishing and powerfully hydrating. Its comfortable texture glides easily on your lips leaving a soft but not greasy film will help protect your lips when you fly. If you're looking for an option with a little colour, opt for the new La Perla’s lux Lip Balm Petal Lips. It’s perfect for the no-makeup makeup looks. Enhancing the natural allure of your beauty, it saturates your lips in a luminous wash of colour, with plumping hydration and artful definition. It's a buildable formula, so the tone intensifies with each smooth stroke – from just a gentle veil of dewy-fresh sheer pink it can transform into a sensational bloom that echoes the tender tones of spring petals.
A question we get asked all the time: Can I take my perfume on the plane? In short: Yes absolutely! But there’s a catch. The perfume that you intend to take in your carry-on baggage must be in containers 100ml in volume or smaller. So, the key here is using the right packaging methods before putting them in our luggage. Our major hack to take on a trip with us are our travel sprays and atomisers. But we get it, dispensing your favourite scent into a travel atomiser is one thing, but storing a sleek compact, leather spray like Creed or Libertine Atomiser is quite another. Well-sealed with a fitted cap, convenient to carry around in your pocket, bag or purse, now you can enjoy fragrances everywhere you go. We love this tip for even when we’re not traveling as atomisers specially made to be lightweight, small, and easy to organize making them the perfect travel gift too! And the best part is? They come in SO many different colours!
3. How to pick a truly personal gift?
Whether you’re travelling to see family or friends, or even to meet someone special for the first time, here are a few ways to spoil them rotten. In the world of gifting, nothing takes the top spot quite like a well-curated fragrance gift set. But how to choose a truly personal gift?
If you haven’t got to see your loved ones in a while, nothing says love languages quite like a Tomato Candle or Diffuser. Be transported to a place you love with its sweet and versatile aroma, making it possibly the ultimate scent of creating a warm atmosphere in one’s home. Inspired by the work of ancient herbalists, the diffuser comes in the shape of an apothecary flask, 100% recyclable.
Another pick on our list? The Experiences Olfactives II by Maison Crivelli. This sample set from Maison Crovelli has been curated with intention. Each scent has been hand-selected for its unique fragrance profile; meaning no two perfumes within the box could ever be categorized as ‘similar’ let alone the same. Enjoy and embrace the scents of Rose Saltifolia, Iris Malikhan, Citrus Batikanga, Fleur Diamantine, Bois Datchai, Santal Volcanique, Lys Solaberg, Absinthe Boreale, Papyrus Moleculaire and Osmanthe Kodoshan.
But nothing compares to the gift of knowledge and experience. You can’t put a price on insider tips on places to go, things to see and which perfume best suits someone personally! So, if you have any advice, passing it on can truly make a trip. It might sound simple, but taking the time to write them down is a truly unique gift that money can’t buy.
