It is in Sevilla, the town of his birth in 1950, that Alberto Morillas experienced his first olfactif emotions. More precisely, in the patio of the family home. Under the heat of Andalusia, the fragrances of orange blossom, jasmin, rosemary and incens bathed all of his youth. Before starting off for school, it was the tradition to brush your hair and scent yourself with a cologne, which was bought by the liter from the pharmacy. The fragrance of cleanliness, characteristic of Colognes, was the first perfume that awakened his sensibility.
Having followed his parents exile to Switzerland when he was only 11, Alberto Morillas continued to go to perfumeries, which at that time, was rather rare for boys of his age. His fascination for Old Spice, its fragrance of cinnamon and spices and later of Dior’s Eau Sauvage and Caron’s Un Homme , were the first perfumes he wore on his own initiative. However, he ignored what his behind each one , a creator and consequently a profession.
While persuing his studies at the College of Beaux-arts in Geneva, and while reading an article and seeing a portrait of Jean-Paul Guerlain in Vogue magazine, it triggered off a complete change in his perception of the profession of perfumer. Without obtaining a degree in chemistry, he managed to convince the famous enterprise, Firmenich in Geneva, to offer him a job within the scientific research group on naturals run by Doctor Säuberli.
In direct contact in the laboratory with the creators, Alberto Morillas perfects his knowledge of fine perfumery and despite this not being allowed starts to compose, on the side, his own perfumes ! Defying the rules in force, he takes steps to present his first concoction to the governing body of the enterprise… an act that becomes his first milestone in the perfumery world.
Both charmed and surprised, Firmenich, suggests to his young man to ” create perfumes without being a perfumer”, to cross the atlantic to continue specific training in New York. He obtains the title of Perfumer in 1977 and that of Maître Perfumer in 1998.
